Drummers love their cymbals and feel a really strong connection musically with them. The more cymbals you have, the greater variety of sounds you can create and generate, which gives your music uniqueness and your performances the added flair and showmanship that goes with the turf. Meinl's Byzance Brilliant Fast Hihats were developed in conjunction with superstar drummer Thomas Lang who has collaborated with artists such as The Clash and Bonnie Tyler among others. Available in 13" and 14" sizes, these fast hihats sing ever so sweetly, but can also scream when abused. The first thing you notice about this hihat pairing is that the top cymbal has the Byzance brilliant polished finish, while the bottom cymbal has a darker, unpolished finish. The design creates an interesting sound characteristic whether you're pumping the pedal for a more pronounced and precise beat or attacking it with the sticks for a more aggressive, penetrating pulse. Thomas himself raves about the 13" hihat, "It giggles with a childlike voice when gently tickled with the tip of my sticks and roars like a wild animal when brutally abused." Aside from the obvious pitch differences, the contrasting finishes between the two cymbals deliver immediate response, an extremely fast chick and a short sustain. Another noticeable design element you'll appreciate? Eight vents scattered around the edges on each cymbal allow air to escape more quickly for faster and more responsive pedal action with less foot force and drag. Fast hi-hats are handmade from strong B20 alloy with 80% copper and 20% tin, then hammered into shape by hand.
