Drummers who have an ear for the uniqueness and individual sound quality of a handcrafted cymbal will appreciate Meinl Dark Spectrum Hihats for their originality and overall musicality.
Designed with personal input from multiple Grammy® winner Rodney Holmes, Spectrum Hihats are based on the simple concept of having a pair of hats that you can use no matter how heavy or delicate the music you’re playing. Hence the name Spectrum. Fast and powerful with a tight stick response, both sizes are able to drive aggressive grooves without overstepping their bounds, even in the heaviest of mixes.
The 13" hihat has a seemingly contradictory sound nature--crisp but full, cutting yet warm at the same time. The 14" hihat is obviously a little heavier, but with less overtones and a louder, trashier sound when played full throttle. The range and complexity of the sounds each size creates provides plenty of versatility and gives them definite presence.
You'll have fun playing every inch and angle, discovering all the sonic nuances and tendencies that lay hidden within their raw and edgy frame. They have a surprising heft about them, but once set in place, these Turkish made hihats react quickly to the foot pedal. These Meinl Cymbals are handmade from a solid core of B20 bronze with a hand-hammered shape and hand-lathed concentric circles that spiral in from the edge all the way to the center bell.
