Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Cymbals
One look at the Byzance Extra Dry cymbals and you might think they were percussion antiques from back in the day. That just goes to show you that looks aren't everything. Remember, when it comes to cymbals, it's all about the sound. Apart from their raw and earthy aged appearance, these cymbals are totally modern with a darker and more esoteric sound that's sure to get your attention, even in louder volume situations. They feature an untreated natural finish that yields an extremely dark sound with a short sustain and dominant lows. Extra Dry Hihats and Crashes are lathed underneath, however. The bell is the only part of the playing surface that's not pinged with hammering marks.
The 13" and 14" Hihats have a fat chick thanks to the heavy bottom and lightweight top that produces a dark stick response with little wash. The 16" and 18" Thin Crashes produce trashy overtones and a soft response with a fast decay. Medium weight 20" and 22" Rides are extremely musical with dry stick definition.
Byzance Extra Dry cymbals are handmade from a super tough B20 bronze alloy to help resist cracking. Then, they're hand-hammered into shape to achieve just the right look and tone that drummers appreciate. Not just another cymbal, every Meinl cymbal is a unique, handcrafted work of art complete with its own sound characteristics that can never be duplicated.
