The Meinl Byzance Ride cymbal has a clear, sweet ping with a subtle hum, little build-up and a long sustain. Excellent for low- to medium-volume situations, it responds well to gentle strikes for jazz, blues and soul tunes, but can also take a beating when you go to wailing on it during a more edgy rock or pop song.
While created to embrace the soothing, low-pitch tones of traditional jazz music, this flat ride also has enough moxie and presence to permeate through most musical mixes on stage or in the studio. That’s a real plus for drummers who play in multiple bands and require a cymbal that can easily adapt to lots of different musical preferences.
Part of the Meinl Byzance Jazz series and created with personal input from world renowned drummer Wolfgang Haffner, this flat ride is made of durable B20 bronze alloy with a nice shimmer. The abundance of hand-hammered detail randomly scattered all over the surface is an indication of the fine handcrafted workmanship that goes into each and every cymbal Meinl makes. No two cymbals can ever be exactly duplicated in appearance or sonic qualities due in part to the cymbal maker’s own intuition, experience and eye for exacting detail.
