The name doesn't tell the whole story. Just because these cymbals are called Jazz Thin Rides doesn't mean they can only be used for jazz music situations. Drummers of all genres will find these versatile thin rides suitable for many different types of music styles from blues to ballads, funk to fusion, pop to punk. Which is nice because you can reduce the size of your drum setup and get more music mileage out of the cymbals you play.
A joint collaboration between studio and touring drummer Wolfgang Haffner and the craftsmen of Meinl, the Byzance Jazz series is designed to capture the distinct nuances and soothing, low pitch tones required of classic jazz music. The Byzance Jazz Thin Ride, in particular, is a traditional jazz ride cymbal with a solid stick response, playable bell and the perfect blend of spread and shimmer for true vintage sound and appearance. Intensive and pronounced hammering marks result in a harmonic, colorful sound with lots of depth.
These cymbals are skillfully handcrafted in Turkey from a B20 bronze alloy and available in a 20" and 22" size. Because each cymbal is made by hand, no two are ever exactly alike in look or tonal personality. Zac Farro of Paramore and Nate Novarro of Cobra Starship count Meinl Byzance Jazz Thin Rides as part of their ensemble and appreciate the dynamics and creativity these cymbals bring to the musical table.
